Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian Martial Art that incorporates dance, acrobatics, and is commanded by music and energetic song. Its origins come from the Afro-Brazilian slaves who used this art as a means to strengthen community, revolt against their oppressors, it is an art-form that is over 500 years old.

Students that participate in the Afro-Brazilian Capoeira Club learn how to give back to the community through artistic performances. They serve as ambassadors of culture engaging the larger community through music, song, and movement. They lead workshops that help expand the multicultural awareness of others.

Alpha Phi Gamma is the first Asian American sorority, established on February 1,
1994, at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. The Seven Sisters who founded the
sorority are Allex Choi, Candy Cunanan, Christine Nguyen, Sandie Rillera, Kolleen Kim,
Grace Hsieh and Jennifer Oku. Through their hard work and determination the sorority is
now recognized as the first Asian Greek Sorority at Cal Poly Pomona. These Sisters wanted
to bring together all women of different nationalities through the bonds of friendship and
Sisterhood. Alpha Phi Gamma was established to promote service and Asian Awareness to
the University and to the community. The Sorority's basis is its pride in being open to new
ideas and the understanding of the lifestyle of an Asian American woman.

Alpha Phi Omega (APO) is NIU's first and oldest co-ed service fraternity. Our chapter was founded on campus in November 1928. We pride ourselves on focusing on three pillars: leadership, fellowship, and service. Leadership includes bettering ourselves individually and participating in leadership roles. Fellowship includes socializing with our brothers within NIU's chapter, or one of the other hundreds of chapters around the world. Service, our main pillar, is what makes this organization so popular. We regularly have different ways to volunteer in the community; whether that is through in-person and online events- there is always something! Our organization welcomes ALL Huskies, regardless of your major, gender identity, sexual expression, nationality, documentation status, or other identities. APO is a dry, non-hazing fraternity. We are Northern Illinois University's anime club located in Room 170A in the Stevens Building on campus in DeKalb, Illinois. Our main activity is publicly showing different types of Japanese Animation (called anime), including movies, TV series, and direct-to-video releases. We show a variety of genres which include drama, comedy, romance, action, adventure, science fiction, and historical. These showings take place every Tuesday night and Thursday night from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm during the Fall and Spring Semesters. Please take a look at the Show Schedule page for a listing of what we are showing this semester. All of our showings are free and open to the public. Other club activities include art lessons, field trips, and parties. Please join our discord to receive up-to-date information regarding our meeting status during the semester.
