Alpha Phi Omega (APO) is NIU's first and oldest co-ed service fraternity. Our chapter (Eta) was founded on campus in November 1928. We pride ourselves on focusing on three pillars: leadership, fellowship, and service. Leadership includes bettering ourselves individually and participating in leadership roles. Fellowship includes socializing with our brothers within NIU's chapter, or one of the other hundreds of chapters around the world. Service, our main pillar, is what makes this organization so popular. We regularly have different ways to volunteer in the community; whether that is through in-person and online events- there is always something! Our organization welcomes ALL Huskies, regardless of your major, gender identity, sexual expression, nationality, documentation status, or other identities. APO is a dry, non-hazing fraternity. We rush the second week of the fall and spring semester! If you are looking for a fun way to get involved, build your resume, and meet new friends- APO is the place for you!

In 1976 Northern Illinois University started its first and only Men's Lacrosse Club. The team had meager beginnings, starting out with only the required number of players to field a team and hand-me-down Football Jersey's to wear as uniforms. Since then, the oldest club sport at NIU has grown into a strong program. The team plays in the GLLL (Great Lakes Lacrosse League) and competes against Big 10 and Big East schools. Playing in this league gives players, who have demanding academic and other personal obligations, the chance to play in a competitive league that is made to reduce travel costs and unnecessarily long road trips. In past years the NIU Lacrosse Club has reached new heights, from placing 4th in the GLLL and having the top ranked defense in the league in 2011 to finishing as Chicago Conference Champions in 2012. NIU Men's Lacrosse continues this streak with a 3rd place finish in the Chicago Windy City tournament in 2021.

Membership Benefits
NIU Men's Lacrosse continues this streak with a 3rd place finish in the Chicago Windy City tournament in 2021. The team gets access to a great group of players to utilize as a support system and make new friends, we provide as much of the gear as we can afford since we know it can get expensive for new players, we also provide the experience of traveling to other schools and competing with other teams just like any collegiate athletics program would without a huge commitment.

Mission
The Cultural Sharing Concert (CSC) organization is designed to enhance cultural diversity and inclusivity within the Northern Illinois University (NIU) community by providing opportunities for students to engage in multicultural music, dance, and artistic expressions. Through these initiatives, the CSC organization fosters cross-cultural understanding, encourages meaningful interactions among international and domestic students, and contributes to the development of globally competent leaders.

International students at NIU often encounter challenges in reconciling the cultural values acquired from their home countries with those they experience in the United States. This cultural dissonance may lead to uncertainty in identity formation, causing some students to disengage from American cultural learning and focus solely on their academic pursuits. This detachment may, in turn, result in misunderstandings or negative perceptions of American cultural values. The CSC is designed to mitigate this cultural confusion by providing a structured platform for international students to engage with and integrate American cultural values while maintaining their own cultural identities. Furthermore, domestic students who participate in the CSC initiatives will develop intercultural competencies, preparing them to become leaders with a nuanced understanding of multiculturalism, which is an invaluable asset in an increasingly globalized society.

The CSC Club’s initiatives will foster a sense of belonging among international students, enhancing their engagement with the NIU academic community and strengthening their commitment to their studies. Without adequate support for the CSC, the educational objectives outlined above may not be realized. A lack of cultural engagement opportunities could contribute to cultural isolation among international students and hinder the mutual exchange of cultural knowledge between international and domestic students. This, in turn, may lead to a diminished appreciation for cultural diversity and a weakened sense of community at NIU.

As NIU transitions into a post-pandemic era, the CSC has the potential to play a vital role in revitalizing campus life by fostering an inclusive, multicultural environment. By facilitating meaningful cultural exchanges, the CSC will contribute to the university’s broader mission of promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
