Hello Student Leaders,
As we approach the end of the fall semester, Student Involvement is sending a reminder about the GPA requirement for student organization officers. Per the SGA Bylaws, all officers must maintain a 2.5 cumulative NIU GPA.
If an officer does not meet the GPA requirement, per SGA bylaws the following will happen:
- If the cumulative NIU GPA of an elected officer drops below the requirement, they shall be allowed one grace semester to bring it back up. During this semester, they shall retain their position and all its rights and responsibilities. If the elected officer is unable to bring their GPA to the requirement after the grace period, their officer position is automatically revoked and the officer next in line of succession per the organization’s constitution shall take office immediately. Appeals shall be sent to the SGA Senate Organization Oversight Committee for consideration of circumstance.
We know how meaningful it is to serve in a student organization and contribute to our campus community. Your leadership matters. At the same time, doing well in your classes is an important part of your Huskie journey, and we want to see you succeed and make it to that graduation stage.
As you move into finals, please prioritize your coursework and take care of yourself. We believe in your ability to succeed both as a leader and as a student and we are here to support you along the way.
End-of-Semester Process:
Student Involvement will conduct grade checks for all officers. Anyone not meeting the 2.5 minimum will be contacted individually and guided through the steps outlined in the SGA Bylaws.
Good luck on your finals - you’ve got this!
Sincerely,
Student Involvement
